There are not too many of you watching me and/or us here these days, which is okay. I'm mostly a Twitter/Facebook presence these days, but this is our main family website. I just added my Twitter feed to the page and updated the photo.
We just returned from several days away to California. We visited Dad and Mom in Havasu Lake, California, for a couple of days and also had a chance to visit with all three of my brothers and their families. What a joy to see everyone! I am mindful of my brothers Sean and Eric as they hang in with hope for long-term job opportunities to arise. It was good to see everyone doing so well in spite of the economic circumstances of the present moment.
We left the Havasu area and spent a couple of days in Palm Springs with our friends at the Marriott Courtyard. While there we visited Mama's niche at Forest Lawn and saw several friends in town. Nobody in Palm Springs had met Mia, so it was a wonderful time for her to visit with everyone. We tried to see everything that the new owners of Mama's house had done with the place. We could see from the outside that they completely restored the structure of the house to its original Alexander specifications. They also put several coats of new paint on the house and did some serious concrete work, removing the "porch" and all of the red rock that was in the front yard. The backyard looks gorgeous with concrete "moments" and, of all things, grass! They also, we understand, replaced the pool with a salt water system. Unfortunately we were never at the house when the new owners were, so we missed them. Maybe next trip. We worshiped with the Palm Springs Church of Christ on Sunday and then prepared to head for Pepperdine.
Our friends, David & Angie Lemley (along with their children Mattox and Asher) graciously welcomed us to stay with them at Helen Young's home on campus at Pepperdine. We enjoyed great visits with them and our children absolutely loved playing together. Mattox and Logan are only a month apart and it is like they are developing on the same trajectory only miles apart. Very intelligent, creative and, above all, energetic! It was also great to meet Asher, who is sweet and gentle, much like our Mia. We had a great time together and wish our visit would not end.
While at Pepperdine we also enjoyed the Pepperdine Bible Lectures. We both attended a class session or two, but the majority of our time was spent visiting with and reconnecting with people. We visited our colleagues from our respective workplaces at Pepperdine, as well as current and former students. While we did not get around to everyone we wanted to see in the course of the Lectures, we saw many and are grateful.
We spent our last Saturday in California on this trip with Mom and Chuck in Camarillo. We had good time in their home, seeing Chuck's progress on house projects, and then went to The Lakes in Thousand Oaks for lunch and play time in the park. The weather was as pleasant as our time together. The picture of Mia on the blog is from our time together. Our time here was too brief, and before we knew it we were back to Malibu. We worshiped with the Conejo Valley Church of Christ on Sunday and realized what a special community that is. Again we enjoyed catching up with good friends.
Sunday afternoon took us to a special lunch at one of our favorite "special occasion" restaurants in Thousand Oaks and then back to Palm Springs for our flight home on Monday morning.
For a nearly two-week trip the time moved quickly, but we have a treasure trove of family memories from the time together. Now it is back to school for Logan, back to Mommy and Mia time, and back to work for Daddy. And as we slide into the heat of the Texas summer we will look forward to more adventures!
